Australia:$15.9 million to strengthen women in STEM careers

  • Funding worth $15.9 million has been announced by federal industry and science minister Ed Husic for round four of Women in STEM and Entrepreneurship (WiSE) grants. The grants provide between $500,000 and $1 million each towards expanding “successful projects that have increased awareness of STEM education and improved opportunities for girls or women” related to STEM careers. This round provides grants up to $1 million to:

    strengthen and expand existing projects driving systemic change

    remove barriers to STEM education and careers for women and girls.

    Successful Round 4 projects include:

    University of Western Australia training women teachers to teach quantum community to 11–15-year-old girls

    Food Futures Company increasing participation of First Nations women in the agri-food sector

    RGD Enterprises providing opportunities for women leaders to gain board positions through their WILD On Board program.
