  • The government electronic marketplace (GeM), the national public procurement portal, is owned by the Indian government and led by the ministry of industry and commerce. Government departments and Indian central public sector enterprises (CPSE) use the site to purchase everyday goods and services. Since its inception, GeM has processed more than 1.1 million orders with a total value of about $239 million.

To promote entrepreneurship by women, GeM launched "Womaniya on GeM", an initiative to support women entrepreneurs and women's self-help groups (WSHGs) in selling products directly to Indian government departments and institutions. Under the initiative, GeM has a page dedicated to women entrepreneurs, and 3% of government procurement is allocated to women entrepreneurs.
