  • The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) released the International Compendium of Entrepreneurship Policies in October 2020. Countries are becoming more aware of the key role that entrepreneurship plays in economic growth and social development. The report addresses what policies the government must issue to encourage entrepreneurship and its sustainable development. It identifies a series of key considerations for designing effective entrepreneurship policies and highlights good practices in policy design and implementation. Policies can aim to improve institutional conditions for entrepreneurship, offer training programmes that are conducive to growth, such as innovation and financing. Besides, entrepreneurship policy can take a holistic approach and support the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems. These policy discussions are illustrated by a selection of 16 international case study examples highlighting good practices in policy design and implementation. The report focuses on policies that emphasize the creation of businesses with job creation and innovation potential but including those that are unlikely to become high growth “gazelles” or “unicorns”.

The International Labor Organization (ILO) released the ‘World Employment and Social Outlook 2021’ report and pointed out that the global digital labor platform has increased fivefold in the past ten years. This growth highlights the need for international policy dialogue and regulatory cooperation to provide work opportunities and sustain business growth. Digital labor platforms are providing new career opportunities for women, the disabled, young people, and traditional labor. The platform also enables companies to acquire a large and flexible workforce with diverse skills while expanding their customer base.

The report focuses on two main types of digital labor platforms: web-based online platforms where workers perform tasks online and remotely and location-based platforms where individuals (such as taxi drivers and delivery workers) perform tasks at designated physical locations. The results of the research report are based on surveys and interviews with approximately 12,000 workers and representatives of 85 companies in various industries around the world.

The Global State of Small Business Report was conducted by Facebook, OECD and the World Bank in the context of COVID-19 crisis. The survey of global small and medium-sized enterprises was carried out in six months, which was based on the future development plan of the company. The purpose of the report is to read the difficulties SMEs faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, measuring business closures, income, employment and financial status. This gains insights into the needs and challenges of SMEs. The report is divided into 6 main stages, and the latest report was published on December 7, 2020.
